The Spatial Ecology Lab in the Department of Biology and Environment, University of Haifa at Oranim is devoted to research in basic and applied ecology. The main research themes in the lab are spatial and landscape ecology, community ecology, and macroecology. We are especially interested in framing these themes in the context of interactions between human activities and ecological phenomena. Research in the lab ranges from basic and theoretical questions of community ecology and macroecology, such as what structures ecological communities of various taxa across environmental gradients; through core landscape ecological questions of relationships between spatial patterns of habitats and ecological processes; to applied questions about the effects of human activities such as livestock grazing, settlement development, and fire ignition on ecological patterns and processes across habitats and landscapes.
